The transform power of Wi-Fi 6E

Wi-Fi has been around for 22 years, and with each new generation, we have witnessed tremendous gains in wireless performance, connectivity, and user experience. Compared to other wireless technologies, the Wi-Fi innovation timeline has always been exceptionally fast.

p1Even with that said, the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E in 2020 was a watershed moment. Wi-Fi 6E is the foundational generation of Wi-Fi that brings the technology to the 6 GHz frequency band for the first time. It’s not just another ho-hum technology upgrade; it’s a spectrum upgrade.

1. What is the difference between WiFi 6E and WiFi 6?
The standard of WiFi 6E is as same as WiFi 6, but the spectrum range will be larger than that of WiFi 6. The biggest difference between WiFi 6E and WiFi 6 is that WiFi 6E has more frequency bands than WiFi 6. In addition to our common 2.4GHz and 5GHz, it also adds a 6GHz frequency band, providing additional spectrum up to 1200 MHz. Through 14 Three additional 80MHz channels and seven additional 160MHz channels operate on the 6GHz band, providing higher capacity for greater bandwidth, faster speeds and lower latency.

More importantly, there is no overlap or interference in the 6GHz frequency band, and it will not be backward compatible, which means that it can only be used by devices that support WiFi 6E, which can solve the problems caused by WiFi congestion and greatly reduce network delays.

2. Why add 6GHz frequency band?
The main reason for the new 6GHz frequency band is that we need to connect a large number of devices in our lives, such as mobile phones, tablets, smart homes, etc., especially in large public places, such as shopping malls, schools, etc., the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands It is already quite crowded, so the 6GHz frequency band has been added to send and receive data together with 2.4GHz and 5GHz, providing higher WiFi traffic requirements and connecting more wireless devices.
The principle is like a road. There is only one car walking, of course it can go quite smoothly, but when many cars are walking at the same time, it is easy to appear “traffic jam”. With the addition of the 6GHz frequency band, it can be understood that this is a brand new highway with multiple priority lanes dedicated to new cars (Wi-Fi 6E and later).
 
3.What it means for enterprises?
You don’t just need to take my word for it. Countries across the globe continue to adopt the new 6 GHz superhighway. And new data was just released showing that more than 1,000 Wi-Fi 6E devices are commercially available as of the end of Q3 2022. Just this past October, Apple – one of the few major Wi-Fi 6E hold-outs – announced their first Wi-Fi 6E mobile device with the iPad Pro. It’s safe to say that we will see many more Apple devices with 6 GHz Wi-Fi radios in the very near future.
Wi-Fi 6E is clearly heating up on the client side; but what does that mean for businesses?
My advice: If your business needs to upgrade Wi-Fi infrastructure, you should seriously consider 6 GHz Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi 6E brings us up to 1,200 MHz of new spectrum in the 6 GHz band. It offers more bandwidth, greater performance, and elimination of slower technology devices, all combining to offer faster and more compelling user experiences. It’s going to be especially helpful with large, crowded public venues, and will be able to better support immersive experiences like AR/VR and 8K video or low-latency services like telemedicine.

Don’t understate or overlook Wi-Fi 6E
According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, more than 350 million Wi-Fi 6E products were expected to enter the market in 2022. Consumers are adopting this technology in droves, which is driving new demand in the enterprise. Its impact and importance in the history of Wi-Fi can’t be understated, and it would be a mistake to pass it by.
